The Viking Ocean class (sometimes referred to as the Star class after lead ship Viking Star) is a single continuous series of near-identical 47,800 GT ships carrying 930 guests in all-veranda staterooms. Viking Star entered service in 2015 and sisters have followed at roughly one a year since, giving the line the most consistent fleet in the industry.

Every ship carries the same core rooms: the Nordic Spa with snow grotto and thermal suite, the Explorers' Lounge forward over two decks, the Wintergarden for afternoon tea, the Aquavit Terrace indoor-outdoor pool bar aft of the main pool, and two speciality restaurants (Manfredi's Italian and The Chef's Table) that are included in the fare.

Because the ships are effectively interchangeable, the choice between them is an itinerary decision rather than a product one — a rare thing in cruising and one of the main reasons Viking retains guests at such a high rate.
