France's rivers impose tighter constraints than the Rhine, so Emerald built shorter, shallower Star-Ships for the Rhône, Saône, Garonne and Dordogne.
Capacity drops to 138 guests, but the signature pool, the Reflections restaurant and the Horizon Bar all carry over from the European class.
The reduced draught is what allows Bordeaux itineraries to work the Gironde estuary and the Dordogne at a wider range of tide states.
Shore programmes lean heavily on wine: château visits in the Médoc and Saint-Émilion, and Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône tastings on the Rhône itineraries.
