Queen Mary 2 is not a cruise ship. She was built in 2004 at Chantiers de l'Atlantique as a true ocean liner: a deep draught, a reinforced foredeck, a long fine bow and steel plating far heavier than any cruise hull, all designed for winter North Atlantic weather at 28 knots.

Onboard she carries the largest library at sea, a planetarium, a full ballroom with resident dance hosts, kennels for the transatlantic dog trade, and the graded Grills restaurants at the top of the ship.

Her role is unique: the only scheduled liner service in the world, seven nights between Southampton and New York, plus an annual world voyage in the winter season.
