Most river lines that run a second restaurant charge for it. AmaWaterways does not: the Chef's Table sits at the stern of every European ship, is included in the fare and is bookable at least once per voyage for every guest.
The room is glass-walled on three sides with an open galley at its centre, so the cooking is the entertainment. Seating is limited to around 24 to 30 guests per service.
The menu is a set multi-course tasting rather than an à la carte list, changed by season and region, with a paired wine flight included.
Reservations are made on board at embarkation and every guest is guaranteed at least one seating; longer voyages usually allow two.
AmaMagna extends the concept with three additional venues — Jimmy's, the Al Fresco Restaurant and the Chef's Table — giving four dining rooms on a single river ship.
